Duncan Ross, Ph.D

Founder & CEO

Dr. Duncan Ross, Ph.D. is a post-doctoral research scientist in the field of biochemistry, immunology, stem cell culture and exosome technology, who has developed and patented proprietary methods of stem cell manipulation and exosome isolation and purification.

Dr. Ross’s groundbreaking research focused on mechanisms of suppression of graft vs. host disease in minor antigen mismatched allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation earned his Ph.D. from the University of Miami. As the Founder and CEO of Kimera Labs, Inc., Dr. Ross’s work is focused on controlling disease with immunological molecular approaches, in particular, exosome isolation from perinatal cells and amniotic fluid. As a pioneer in the development of cell-free exosome products, Dr. Ross’s research is focused on the development of MSC exosome technologies for scientific and clinical research. Dr. Ross has been featured in multiple peer-reviewed publications including “Blood” and “Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation”, in which he discussed the use of various cell types to suppress immunological diseases. He currently has a patent pending for a wound-healing application of MSC exosomes. Dr. Ross is also the Chairman of the Board of the federal nonprofit research organization, The Kimera Society, which has developed a number of clinical partners in the US and abroad by serving as an educational conduit for medical provider and health care institutions.

Jason Sanders

Jason Sanders, M.D.


Dr. Sanders is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, and a graduate from Harvard University with an honors degree in Biochemical Sciences and a concentration in molecular biochemistry and cellular signaling.

Dr. Sanders graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 2002 and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and completed a fellowship in shoulder, elbow and hand surgery. After building a successful subspecialty practice in upper-extremity, reconstructive surgery over 10 years, Dr. Sanders shifted his focus to developing minimally-invasive regenerative techniques not requiring surgical intervention. With his holistic view of systemic regeneration, Dr. Sanders has developed innovative techniques using lasers, broadband light and advanced biologics, such as amniotic fluid, mesenchymal stem cells and stem cell exosomes to regenerate multiple organ systems including the musculoskeletal system and the skin. Dr. Sanders is currently involved in continued exosome technology research and development, physician education and business development, and is the President of Kimera Labs.

Taylor Kuhn, Ph.D.

Clinical Investigator

Dr. Kuhn is a CNS Clinical Neuropsychologist, who conducts neurocognitive assessments and assists in formulating multifaceted treatment plans. He also holds a faculty appointment at UCLA as the Director of the International Human Brain Mapping Project.

Specializing in the intersection of neuromedical illness and mental health treatment, Dr. Kuhn provides outpatient neurocognitive and psychodiagnostic assessment along with coordinated treatment. These services are available to adults with a broad array of neurological and psychiatric concerns. He also has experience providing pre-transplant, rehabilitation and geriatric psychological consultations. Throughout his career, he has completed extensive training in outpatient, inpatient, and perioperative neuropsychological assessment.
He obtained his Ph.D. in Psychology from The University of Florida. He completed an internship at the Boston Consortium in Clinical Psychology with fellowship appointments at Harvard University and Boston University. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA, where he had the honors of being chief research fellow and assistant chief clinical fellow.

Dr. Kuhn holds a research faculty appointment at UCLA. He has a growing record of accomplished research that bridges the gap between neuropsychology and neuroimaging to investigate relationships between brain and behavior across multiple psychiatric conditions, neurodegenerative disorders, neuromedical illnesses, healthy aging, and intellectual giftedness. More recently, he has expanded his research endeavors to include investigation of non-invasive neuromodulation techniques, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for psychiatric illnesses and low intensity focused ultrasound pulsation (LIFUP) for enhancement of learning and memory.

Greg Chernoff, M.D., F.R.C.S.(C)

Dr. Chernoff is a Triple Board Certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in practice for over 25-years in Indiana and California. He is an international researcher, lecturer, and thought leader featured on ABC, NBC, CBS, Dateline, and TIME.

Dr. Chernoff received AMERICA’s TOP Doctor Award for four consecutive years. Dr. Chernoff is a National Institution of Health (NIH) certified researcher. He is an affiliate of the Cell Surgical Network, the investigational research arm of the California Stem Cell Treatment Center. Dr. Chernoff has expanded his research and treatment that includes an office in China. Dr. Chernoff has authored numerous scientific papers and medical laser textbook chapters. He has given over 700 lectures to physicians around the world on both surgical and non-surgical therapy.
Dr. Chernoff combines meticulous surgical techniques with the latest non-surgical therapies to give his patients consistent rejuvenation results. For close to 25-years, Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery has brought state-of-the-art procedures and exceptional care to patients in Indiana, California, and around the world.

Jian Jun Shi Ph.D.

Chief Science Officer

Dr. Shi is a post-doctoral cell biologist, who has extensive experience with gene therapy and cell culture and has served as director of research and development at Kimera Labs, Inc since June 2018.

He brings over 10 years of industrial and academic research experience with publications in molecular biology, cell biology and immunology. He is proficient in cell culture techniques of mammalian cells, primary cells, and pluripotent stem cells, including differentiation assays and viral transduction. He is also well versed in genetic recombination, RNA-Sequencing, tissue histology, multicolor flow cytometry, gene expression assays, and data analysis. Prior to joining the Company, Dr. Shi served as Research Scientist for Ocean Ridge Biosciences, LLC where he was responsible for RNA-Sequencing library preparation, library quantification and sequencing independently in several projects. Dr. Shi received his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from Chinese Academy of Sciences. He also completed postdoctoral research focused on the molecular mechanisms underlying intra-thymic T-cell development at the Scripps Research Institute

Sheldon Jordan, M.D.

Clinical Investigator

Dr. Jordan is Board Certified in Psychiatry & Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Addiction Medicine, and Interventional Pain Medicine, has served on the faculty at UCLA and is a trained NeuroStar Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Provider.

Considered a top doctor by Best Doctors in America, Who’s Who, Global Edition, and Super Doctors, his philosophy is to listen to patients’ individual stories and provide management and treatment solutions tailored specifically to their needs. He treats patients with depression using NeuroStar TMS Therapy, which is a safe and effective non-drug treatment for depression.. He was elected as Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and holds additional certifications from the American Society of Neuroimaging in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computed Tomography and Ultrasonography.

In private practice in Westwood and Santa Monica, CA since 1981, Dr. Jordan’s emphasis is on interventional pain management, neuroimaging, clinical neurophysiology and sports neurology. He has numerous publications based on the clinical experience and research in these areas. His research interests include Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for treatment of depression, pain and a variety of neurological and psychiatric disorders. He is a member of the national consortium for developing guidelines for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. He has been on faculty at UCLA and USC as Clinical Associate Professor, helped establish the Stroke Service at UCLA and participated in some of the early work in surgical monitoring, brain mapping and evoked potential physiology. Dr. Jordan is a neurology consultant for US Soccer Men’s and Women’s National Teams, Major League Soccer, professional boxing and the NBA. He has also served as a consultant for the State of California, Commission of Judicial Performance.

Dr. Jordan was a Goldwyn Scholar and graduated from UCLA Medical School in 1977 with the Upjohn Award for best student in combined research and academics and the Gold Medal in Surgery. He did his medical internship, residency and fellowships in clinical neurophysiology while staffing the electroencephalography laboratory and electromyography laboratory and completing all studies in 1981. He was also recognized with the best resident teaching accolade, the Augustus Rose Award. Dr. Jordan is an artist in portraiture and sculpture with gallery showings in New York and California. Professional art activities have included illustrations for numerous journal articles and books.

Ahmed Fadiel, Ph.D

Bioinformatics Research

Dr. Fadiel is a molecular biologist with extensive experience in bioinformatics, clinical informatics, genomics, and proteomics.

He holds Masters degrees in clinical investigation (MSCI-CEIR) and cell genetics, and a Doctoral degree in molecular genetics. Dr. Fadiel has many years of research experience conducting research and running projects on many areas related to women’s health research and reproductive biology including fetal growth restriction genomics, menopause, personalized medicine, drug discovery, and cancer. This multidisciplinary nature of his research is built on his bioinformatics and computational biology foundation. Dr. Fadiel has complete fellowships in genomics, proteomics and Bioinformatics from Yale, University of Toronto and New York University. Dr. Fadiel, has published numerous articles and delivered more than 150 lectures and conference presentations in a variety of periodicals, leading scholarly journals and symposia. He has co-authored multiple book chapters on molecular biology of cancer, animal biotechnology, bioinformatics and molecular biology.

Maryel Gonzalez

Chief Regulatory Officer

As Chief Regulatory Officer at Kimera Labs with more than twenty 20 years of experience in a biotechnology / pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, Maryel Gonzalez Perez is responsible for Analytical Development, Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs.

Maryel has leveraged a solid scientific background with technical experience in radiochemistry, chemistry and biochemistry, working on all aspects of early-stage drug development from phase I to phase III, including analytical method development and validation of ELISA, HPLC, CE-SDS, cIEF, IEF, SDS PAGE, Western blots, cell-based assays and radioimmunoassay; as well as establishing product specifications. She has a deep understanding of USP and EP methodologies which enables her to provide guidance and oversight for the release and testing of API, finished products and raw materials while assuring quality systems and standard operating procedures are in compliance with the most stringent requirements for GLP and cGMP.

She began her career in development and commercial manufacturing of diagnostic kits for diagnosis and screening of neonatal and prenatal diseases such as alpha feto-protein, phenylketonuria, hypothyroidism, and more. After moving from Cuba to the United States, she worked at Azopharma, a Contract Research Organization, mainly focused on the method development and quality control of small molecules and cytotoxic agents. She subsequently expanded into work with complex biologic molecules, mainly monoclonal antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates among others, at Goodwin Biotechnology, a Contract Manufacturing Organization, where she oversaw the analytical development and quality system for approximately 7 years. Maryel graduated Valedictorian and Summa Cum Laude of The Higher Institute of Nuclear Sciences and Technology in Havana, Cuba, where she received her degree in Radiochemistry. She is currently completing a Master’s Degree in Biotechnology Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at John Hopkins University.

Douglas Spiel, M.D.

Clinical Consultant

Dr. Spiel is Board-Certified in diagnostic radiology and interventional pain medicine, and has a profound understanding of the physiological basis of stem cell therapy, which has made him a unique presence on the educational landscape of regenerative medicine.

Dr. Spiel lectures nationally for some of the most respected societies including the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, Boston BioLife, the American Association of Stem Cell Physicians and numerous state medical societies. Dr. Spiel serves on the editorial board of Pain Physician, is section editor of Interventional Pain Management Reports and is a Board member of the American Association of Stem-Cell Physicians. As an expert in endoscopic spine surgery, diagnostic radiology, interventional pain and regenerative medicine, his novel treatment strategies serve as the standards for exosome therapy. Dr. Spiel has successfully treated numerous diverse pathologies ranging from central nervous system disease to alopecia, autoimmune disease and various spinal and musculoskeletal conditions.
